Throughout my time learning English in school, I often knew what was right or wrong, but could never quite explain why. Unsurprisingly, many of my peers shared the same problem. This lack of understanding and mastery was the result of rote learning. As an English teacher now, I ensure students learn from me to the point of understanding so that they are able to comprehend and convey in English successfully.
As of 2021, I have 6 years of full-time teaching and tutoring experience, on top of 5 years of part-time tutoring while I was a student in secondary school and university. I have extensive teaching experience with a wide array of age groups, including students in primary and secondary levels, as well as adult learners.
My time in UCSI University, Malaysia came to the acquisition of a degree in Food Science and Nutrition. However, picking up the passion of teaching over the years as I tutored younger students while studying, I made the decision to focus on teaching.
I believe that education comes mostly from within, so students should be taught and guided to take ownership of their own learning. Students who do so are motivated, engaged and self-directed, invaluable qualities that are sure to stand them in good stead.
